Lemur, Mongoose - IUCN Conservation Status

IUCN Red List of Threatened Species information on the Mongoose Lemur. As of 2020, they are classified as Critically Endangered because forests of western Madagascar are already highly fragmented and continue to be cleared for pastures, crops, and charcoal production. Hunting using traps is also considered to be a threat. This species is now more often regarded as a crop pest, especially by an influx of Malagasy who do not adhere to local customs that have historically provided lemurs in the Comoro Islands a greater degree of protection. The population trend is decreasing and reported to be severely fragmented.
