IUCN Red List of Threatened Species information on the Gharial. As of 2019, they are classified as Critically Endangered because of alteration of their habitat (diverting rivers and farming) fishing, and humans eating the eggs. The population trend is starting to increase due to conservation and education. The population is severely fragmented.
